Costume Making/Student
Whilst studying for my MA in Costume Making, I secured a placement (with the help of my lecturer Toni Bates, LIPA) with Vanessa Coupe.
Vanessa Coupe is a costume freelancer who's creative career includes many Everyman performances, the hit touring musical "Six", Gentleman Jack (BBC), and Poldark (BBC).
During my placement there, Ness (Vanessa Coupe) was commissioned with the making of costumes for a London event called Lapland UK. The event have issued a lot of funding to get bespoke costumes especially made so as to create the magical wonderland experience.
I enjoyed my placement greatly. It improved my standard of costume making and focused my attention on the importance of details and finishings.
My Log Book
Below is my log book, it is my way of documenting the placement I completed with Vanessa Coupe. (I would advise expanding the image to full screen to get the best view of the digital sketchbook).
The Performance of "Six"
When Ness reached out to me again to help her with some garment construction for the upcoming tour of "Six", I jumped at the opportunity.
I assisted with the construction of one of the Queen's outfits (Katherine Howard) by assisting with sewing preparation and also preparing the pattern pieces for construction. The costume Ness was commissioned to make was for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration!
I also went to see the touring hit musical when it came to the Empire theatre in Liverpool.
